Stimtema
Stimtəmaʔ 13 Grandmother Moons is a publication of my graduate research to fulfill my interdisciplinary masters of fine arts degree as a performance major, (that I completed in November 2018 at UBCO).
It is a multilayered, multifaceted exploration of the (captikwəɬ) that is holistic in practice and touches upon the cultural, spiritual, social, anthropological, environmental, historical and educational realms of my ancestors who inhabited the lands on both sides of the 49th parallel known as the Okanagan Suknaqin / Colville Plateau territory.
My research included an extensive review of the traditional stories of the Syilx people, and more specifically the work of my Great Great Grandmother Mourning Dove in her book Coyote Stories, Tales of the Okanagan. The stories, told in performance style, captured intergenerational audiences, delivered in its traditional form. Thus lead to my one-woman performance of the “Chipmunk and Owl Woman” story found at the heart of this investigative research.
