AMBER JENSEN
The Sweetgrass Youth Alliance Team:
Amber Jensen - I started Sweetgrass Youth Alliance in 2016 after losing my foster son to Fentanyl. My goal is to help vulnerable youth in my community by providing support and advocacy. I have lived in Southern Alberta my entire life and am proud to call it my home. I have a BA in Psychology from the University of Lethbridge and currently work in the classroom at the Lethbridge Youth Treatment Center. I have been a foster parent for almost 10 years, taking in youth ages 12-18.
Amanda Fox - I am a student at the University of Lethbridge and volunteer with the Sweetgrass Youth Alliance. Hearing peoples’ stories made me want to cry every time, and I see the strength in all who told their stories. We all want to heal in our hearts and in our minds, whatever the challenge is, we can overcome it if we open our hearts to each other. I will always try hard for my children and myself, and I hope we can all see the beauty in life.
Nicholas Iron Shirt - I found a calling in the counseling and healing of our people, through hard work and learning about addiction. I have also seen what the drug epidemic is doing to our communities throughout Alberta and Canada, with these harmful drugs going around killing thousands of people. I am a volunteer with the Sweetgrass Youth Alliance and am attending the University of Lethbridge.
Mark Brave Rock - I am a member of Kainai First Nation in Alberta. In the past I was homeless and struggled with addiction but have been sober for 6.5 years. I am now a community advocate and host drumming and art classes for local agencies.
