Only a few short years after the Occupation of Alcatraz, the Wounded Knee Occupation and the Shootout at Pine Ridge Reservation, a boy was conceived...

Chosen before birth to be raised by his grandparents as a pii’pii’taki (“favored grandson” who is taught traditional Blackfoot ways and the immense power of storytelling), his great grandparents gave him the traditional name O’mahk’siik’iimi - aka Big Waters (always moving forward, carving new paths, filling gaps, nourishing the Earth).

Today, he is an internationally bestselling Author, Illustrator and Founder of Eaglespeaker Publishing. Now based in Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia, Canada), raising his two young sons, he travels extensively, rez-to-rez, creating endless non-fiction works with Indigenous authors from throughout North America. His hard hitting true stories focus on revealing the modern experiences of Indigenous people (the strengths and the struggles).
