Stimtema
“Stimtəmaʔ 13 Grandmother Moons” offers a profound exploration of the spiritual, cultural, and educational knowledge rooted in the traditions of the Syilx people, spanning both sides of the 49th parallel. Based on graduate research from UBCO, this multidisciplinary work delves into the wisdom of my ancestors, blending anthropology, environmental studies, and the arts.
Drawing from the seminal works of my Great Great Grandmother, Mourning Dove, and her landmark collection Coyote Stories, Tales of the Okanagan, this study illuminates the deep connection between traditional storytelling and the resilience of Indigenous cultures. A key feature of this book is the one-woman performance of the Chipmunk and Owl Woman story, capturing the essence of oral storytelling and connecting generations through its timeless teachings.
Stimtəmaʔ 13 Grandmother Moons goes beyond academia—it’s a celebration of the power of oral traditions, a tribute to the strength of Indigenous peoples, and a call for cultural reconnection. This work not only preserves our stories but also demonstrates their relevance in today’s world. Whether you're an educator, researcher, or someone interested in understanding the transformative power of Indigenous knowledge, this book invites you to explore the lasting impact of our cultural practices and the path toward healing and empowerment.
